Pioneering has been romanticized in the church where you get to lead the way with new language, edgy posts, concepts, and revelation while also keeping your comforts. But true pioneering costs you everything. It’s picking up your cross and following Jesus into the unknown. It’s loving not your life into death. You aren’t celebrated, you look foolish. You have to forfeit reputation for a very long time and be ok with people never seeing your potential because you don’t fit their current system. You have to be ok with building in secret where no one may ever see the true cost you pay, the pain, anguish, and deep wrestle that takes place. Yes, it’s a life poured out at the feet of Jesus where you constantly fight giants that want you to back peddle and settle for the mediocre, and lose his gaze for a moments reprieve. It’s a life of character defining valleys, refining, and monumental risks, screaming doubts, painful introspection, and dark nights of the soul, BUT…. It’s also a life of mountain tops you will never encounter ANY OTHER ROUTE.
Why am I saying this? Right now the pioneers are in a place of extreme tension, weighing up the pros and cons of going forward or running backwards, and I want to encourage you to STAY THE PATH!
